Deep Purple - Taste It Downunder(1975-11-25) FLAC

GENRE: Hard Rock
FORMAT: Lossless (Flac)
SIZE: 815mb (3% Recovery)

Recorded live at Festival Hall Melbourne, 1975-11-25.

Early recording of the infamous Deep Purple MK4 world tour.
Well, this is before everything would fall apart, Tommy had a real good time in down under and was clean at that time (at least from Heroin...) and the shows where well recived by the audience. The new material was played with a lot of enthusiasm and the band was pretty expirimental. However, the old MKIII & III stuff is quite a different thing. Tommy blows the beginning of Burn and the overall playing is a bit sloppy at times.
The battle for the microphone had already begun, so there's a lot of screaming from Coverdale & Hughes in and between songs.
But there's also a great fell of energy and excitment in this recording which lacks in later recordings. Deep Purple where really out to prove themselfs before a big crowd and despite the above you will hear that the boys enjoyed themself that night.

NOTES:

When Jon Anderson, disenchanted with the new direction that Yes was taking, announced his departure from the band after the huge 1987-88 “Big Generator” tour, very few people knew what the man had in mind for the future of Yes music. The answer came less than a year later when an official announcement was made that Jon had joined forces with former Yes band members Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe to sign with Arista Records and form a new group named simply “Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe”. With the task of getting Yes music back on track again, ABWH set off to record their only studio album. Completed in the summer of 1989, this album recaptured the magic of the early Yes albums these four men created in the early seventies, and, once released, gained worldwide fan and critic acclaim.
Artist Roger Dean, whose ethereal art had graced so many Yes album covers in the seventies, was asked to provide some special cover artwork for the new album, as well as a new stage design for the forthcoming world tour. Starting at Mud Island in Memphis, Tennessee on July 29th 1989, this tour took the band across North America, the U.K., Eastern Europe and Japan before ending back in the United States at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 5th 1990. In the absence of traditional Yes bass player Chris Squire, ABWH was able to secure the talents of renowned bassist Tony Levin, a long time associate of Bill Bruford in King Crimson. Levin’s extraordinary finesse and very personal style brought new life to the old Yes material played during the tour.
To enhance the live performance of both the old and new material, ABWH also brought in Julian Colbeck, who would join the Steve Hackett band in 1990, on keyboards, and Milton McDonald on guitar. The set list for the new tour included about two thirds of the new album, as well as a few Yes classics from the early Bruford era. Strangely enough, the ABWH tour would be the first time that Bill Bruford would perform, live, songs that he had helped to compose on the “Close To The Edge” album in 1972. His departure from Yes shortly after recording the material prevented his participation in live performances at the time. With this group of unique and talented musicians playing both old and new material, ABWH concerts became incredible musical events.
The show we present here was recorded in front of 15,000 people at the Summit in Houston, Texas, on August 28th of 1989, and would be the last performance to include Tony Levin during this part of the tour. Shortly after completing the final song of the evening, “Starship Trooper”, Tony walked off and collapsed back stage. He was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with Hepatitis. Four concerts had to be cancelled while the band quickly recruited American bass player Jeff Berlin to replace Levin until he could return. Under the circumstances, and with only three days to absorb so many complex pieces of music, Jeff did a magnificent job. The ABWH full-concert video, which was shot only a few days later in California, stands as undeniable proof of that fact. Tony Levin returned to his post for the first concert of the U.K. leg of the tour on October 20th. Sadly, the ABWH project only lasted for this one tour and ended with the formation of the Yes / ABWH Union. So here we present a very special concert in the history of a very special band.

On their second volume, Empress Valley were hard pressed to offer anything “lost”. These are all well-known Stones tracks and in 2005 had been widely available to knowledgeable fans. So the only advantage was the excellent sound quality.

Here was Keith Richards singing Gimme Shelter while Mick Jagger sang You Got The Silver, which was mostly a Keith composition. The version of Loving Cup here has the lead guitar nicely leading the band with a vocal from Jagger that turns rowdy at the end.
Brown Sugar, is that Eric Clapton on guitar? That’s the one most collectors call the “alternate” Brown Sugar. No slide guitar from Clapton or loud backing vocals from Keith marks this as an outtake with a different guitar part instead. In fact, some songs are so familiar, two takes of Sister Morphine, which are identical except perhaps one is slightly louder. They differ from the released version with a punchier bass.
So we come to the “lost” sessions of this volume. The multiple versions of Brown Sugar and Bitch. These are not different takes but “playbacks”. The engineer starts and stops the tracks during playback. Someone is listening. For Empress Valley to list them here, without notation, seems wrong as on first appearance, it’s as if a session is offered. The sound cuts off whenever the tape is stopped. It’s not an error on the disc.
Now who would want a “lost” session like this? You can do this at home with your remote.
The bootleg closes with two songs from Goat’s Head Soup, again filler material but in excellent quality. Winter is raw, slightly out of focus with the keyboards or synths too dominant. The vocals are different.

The Rolling Stones - The Lost Sessions Vol.1 - Sweet Black Angel (2005) FLAC

GENRE:  Rock
FORMAT: Lossless (Flac)
SIZE: 407mb (3% Recovery)

16 outtakes from 1968-70, 7 are instrumentals. Excellent soundboard stereo.

What was Empress Valley thinking with Sweet Black Angel? Presumably they had found better quality recordings of these bootleg songs and make quick money. By assembling the sessions from Nellcote, France, the first eight tracks offer a first glimpse of the Stones at work from May to September 1971 (the dates on the artwork offer contradicting information) for Exile On Main Street. Most of the rest of the tracks are from the Elektra Sessions in Los Angeles, around November 1972, by which time Exile had already been released in May.
One can only guess Empress Valley wanted to assemble the bulk of the sessions from ‘71 to ‘72. The only sessions that can be called “lost” are the seven instrumentals, almost all from the LA sessions assembled nicely together. They are led by either Mick Taylor or Nicky Hopkins with not a sign of thick-lips Jagger in them.
These then are the “jams”. The instrumentals Sweet Black Angel and Let It Loose are however not jams but fully formed songs. Potted Shrimp has a very nice interplay between Taylor (or is that Keith?) and Hopkins both driving the song into a quiet, graceful closure. This is followed by Aladdin Story, which has a spacey organ and Jim Price horn that suggests perhaps there was more to this tune. Otherwise why write the horn parts? Aladdin recalls 2000 Light Years From Home.
It may be that after Taylor left, the Stones would never be as much a blues-based outfit. Although there are many bootlegs of sessions since 1972, mostly the guitar sound is “modern” reflecting a desire to stay hip and with it or driven by a monotonous organ riff.
One instrumental, I’m A Country Boy, is from 1968, recorded at Olympic Studios in London presumably for the album Beggar’s Banquet or Let It Bleed. It has that affinity for rusticity with a rambling honky tonk piano. Probably influenced by The Band’s album of that year.
The rest of Sweet Black Angel is filler from the late ’60s. Complete songs that just had no place to go. For example the soulful ballad with strange title, Hamburger To Go. And the songs I’m Going Down and I Don’t Know Why, both of which are second division parodies of The Stones. Sound quality is excellent and perhaps that was the main reason for Sweet Black Angel.

The Rolling Stones - Necrophilia (2002) FLAC

GENRE: Rock | Rock'N'Roll
FORMAT: Lossless (Flac)
SIZE: 314 mb (3% Recovery)

This is the never-released album from 1971 (or was it 1972), which was pressed on a few acetates. Some acetates were sold, for a lot of money, a couple of years ago, and....surfaced on bootleg CD after a while. The songs are either completely different takes (like "Have You Seen Your Mother Baby"), or different mixes than the official versions (from Metamophosis) Pay Your Dues (the alternate version of Street Fighting Man) and the speeded-up Blue Turns To Gray are really fantastic, as Metomophosis, several of the songs features Jagger, Richards and studio musicians, and not the other Stones members.
